The Webs We Weave...

October's window is filled with colorful pieces accompanied by a quote from a timeless story of steadfast friendship, the kind you come across only every so often that inspires you and fortifies you and lets you know that whatever is next, you'll be okay. The inspiration sparked this past summer when a sweet customer who teaches at a local school suggested that her students might enjoy displaying their work…Charlotte's Web came up and the broader idea of farm animals winnowed into spider webs…she and the kids took it away. This might be our favorite window yet (we think that almost every month, but this one especially!).
The webs we weave are oh-so-important.

The current edition of Dahling Wine Bundles is filled with orange wine- also known as skin contact wine or amber wine- white grapes that have spent various amounts of time on the skin (the way most red wines come to be making these hearty whites perfect for the fare of cooler months), imparting color, texture, tannin, depth. Three of them are from Georgia's region of Kahkheti which holds an ancient history of amber winemaking. One bottling comes from the Kisi grape, one is a blend of Mtsvane and Rkatsiteli, and one is a Rkatsiteli from the high elevations of the Kakhetian mountains…Georgia's amber style has inspired winemakers around the viticultural world to play with the process and we couldn't help falling in love with Josep Foraster's orange expression of Macabeau from Spain's Conca de Barbera- it's delicate and dreamy and a perfect juxtaposition to the Georgian expressions.

A bunch of orange wines are included in our Two-Table Tasting Tomorrow, Friday, 10/24.
We'll see you at the shop!

We've been building a “Cellar Wall” of curated collectibles- some with age already “under the belt”, some with great potential for more.
They make thoughtful gifts for curious collectors, novice and expert alike…or heck, a solid something for yourself ;-).

Clos Vougeot is the second largest Grand Cru vineyard in Burgundy thanks to the history of Burgundy and the ways its land became bundled this way and that. More remarkably, the entire plot is enclosed by a clos, or a stone wall marking a distinct plot, since the time of the Cistercian monks and their deep study, recording, and experimentation that still helps us understand the intricacies of Burgundy today- it is the standard-bearing region for this reason. Clos Vougeot can be thought of as the token single vineyard of all that attention and discipline (we are grateful!). 2013 was a tricky vintage with a chilly start and Bertagna found the way to make theirs shine with round, silky, dark cherry, and wild strawberry notes with perfectly delicate tannins. Classic, thoughtful, delicious today, built for the ages.
