Domaine Bertagna has roots in the Clos de Vougeot going back centuries — the historic estate once belonged to the Cistercian monks who founded the Clos in the 13th century, and the cellars remain in the heart of the village today. Owned since 1985 by the Reh family and run by Eva Reh, the estate spans 18 appellations including five Grand Crus from Chambertin to Corton. Their Clos de Vougeot parcel is 0.31 hectares, destemmed 100% after rigorous sorting on a sorting table, fermented slowly over 3-4 weeks, and aged 18 months in 100% French oak barriques.
The 2013 vintage was the last at Bertagna made by winemaker Roland Masse before he departed to lead the cellar at the Hospices de Beaune — a final statement of vintage and personal expression. 2013 was a challenging, cool year in Burgundy that rewarded patient producers who waited for ripeness: the wines that succeeded are precise, elegant, and built for the long haul rather than early pleasure. This bottle sits squarely in that camp.
