It's here, Nouveau has arrived! Annually, the third Thursday of November is Beaujolais Nouveau Day, the day when wine retailers worldwide can officially sell the very first bottling of the vintage.
The fresh-as-a-baby, swiftly-made Gamay wine was originally produced for vineyard workers celebrating the end of harvest… Light and easy-drinking, it quickly garnered popularity in the region of Beaujolais and nearby Lyon, eventually reaching Paris, as all pretty things do.
With a little strategic marketing in the 70's (oh the 70's!) by Beaujolais vigneron, Georges Duboef, it became the phenomenon it is today. Celebrated with great fanfare in France, here in the States the arrival of Nouveau conveniently coincides with our tradition of Thanksgiving (one week prior, to be exact), and happens to pair beautifully with the classic dishes of our harvest feast.
We've put together a Beaujolais Nouveau Sampler Pack featuring one bottle of each of the bottlings we carry.
We've brought in the young and old vine Nouveau from Pierre Chermette for the 5th year in a row because we admire Chermette's philosophy and integrity, and mostly because we just like it. Additionally, we started with a new nouveau from Pauline Passot of La Pierre Grosse last November. It brings a perfectly playful balance to the others- there's a flamingo with a cocktail umbrella on the label, after all. ;-)
These are our three; they have arrived. Let the festivities commence.

So drinkable- you'll blink and it'll be gone.

Uncommon for Beaujolais Nouveau this wine comes from old-vine Gamay - it's well structured and complex while still delivering Nouveau's classic ripe cassis and raspberry.
A mustachioed twist on a holiday classic.

Cheerful and expressive!
Strawberry, blackberry, and chamomile dance together with refreshing acidity and delicate tannin.
