Chenin Blanc from a single plot of the estate’s oldest vines planted in ancient shale soils with gravely top soils and a heavy clay base for rain retention.
WHERE
The South African village of Overberg in Bot River, Walker Bay.
WHY
This is a legacy wine, to pay tribute to a loved one who represents the spirit and philosophy of the family. First produced in 1997 to honor Hope Marguerite Beaumont.
WHEN
2018, a very dry vintage resulting in small berries.
HOW
Only the oldest vines of the family’s property are used for this wine. Vinified using ambient yeast in 400 liter French oak barrels (with just a touch of new oak), and 10 months resting on its lees.
