Sourced from two individual parcels picked in two passes, each fermented & matured in barrel separately. Fruit from heavily leaf plucked vines contribute depth and richness to the wine, while fruit from bigger canopy vines give vibrancy and beautiful aroma. Warm fermentation and extended skin contact maximize texture, weight, and complexity. 13% abv.
From a family-owned organic vineyard and winery in Hawke’s Bay.
The winery began in 1989 when the Ham Family purchased &
planted bare land in an area of the Western Heretaunga plains, now known as
the Bridge Pa Triangle Wine District. ‘Alpha’ is derived from the names of the
founders and ‘Domus’ is Latin for home.
Hawke's Bay has a Mediterranean-like climate with heat summations between Burgundy and Bordeaux, with maritime influences that temper hot summer days and deliver long growing seasons. This rare mid-point is why the region can credibly produce a wide variety of grapes. Hawke’s Bay boasts over 25 different soil types, everything from silty loams and red metal to gravelly plains and stony outcrops. This diversity gives viticulturalists the opportunity to plant red and white grape varieties that do well under very different conditions.
